Afternoon in Paradise

The room was quiet except for the sound of the sea. The plants needed water, the door was open, but there was little moving. He sat there long enough for the afternoon light to shift across the floor, watching the horizon and waiting for someone to arrive.”

That was the first one. The paintings that followed carry on through the same long afternoon. The path winds down the road. He sits a while in the trees. He crosses toward the green, stands at the water and hears everything the sea won’t say. Nothing quite happens. It’s an afternoon spent waiting: for someone to come, for a conversation to start, for the day to give up its light. Paradise.
