The Poolside Collection

The swimming pool recurs throughout Rockefeller’s work – not as a conscious theme, but as a narrative image.

While pools hold a significant place in modern and contemporary art, most notably in the work of David Hockney, Rockefeller’s association is rooted in lived experience.

Growing up in Australia, and later on Los Angeles rooftops, pools were not objects of aesthetic contemplation but part of everyday life: weekend escapes, competitions, backyard afternoons, and long summer days.

At once private and social, lively and solitary, they carry a layered emotional resonance beyond the water.
